KELSIE DURBIN
____________________________________________
Kelsie Durbin is from Alexandria, LA and moved to New Orleans in 2014 in order to study film, theater and fine arts at the University of New Orleans. With the pursuit of special effects she attended cosmetology school at the Aveda Institute in 2017 and graduated in 2018. This experience made her realize how much she appreciated the salon environment rather than a film set. Once licensed, she started working at a nail salon which ended with the Covid outbreak in 2020. Throughout this time she developed a love of styling updos for weddings. She started her own mobile hairstyling business called Smoking Mirror, which she still runs today. In order to recover from the Covid blow, she worked at Supercuts for a year and a half. There she only grew her love of cutting hair, especially those extra creative ones. She wants to make sure that everyone feels that they’re in a safe and beautiful space but especially those queer alternative kids who want to finally feel like themselves. She keeps up with what’s trending and uses her fine art background to create sculpture out of hair. She is still doing on-location styling for weddings, events and photo shoots; which can be booked by messaging @smokingmirror on Instagram and/or Smoking Mirror Cosmetology on Facebook.
