Expert Styling
On Saturday, Nov. 14, a few members of the Stardust team–Omar Romero, Erica Phares and Bryan Metoyer–along with makeup artist Jennifer Stringer helped style and beautify runway models for a high-energy fashion show at the Marriott’s AC Hotel in the French Quarter. The show–part of the hotel’s invitation-only “Night of Art and Fashion”–featured the works of Miami-based designers Karelle Levy and Anna Mixon. Levy is the owner of Krel Wear, a unique brand of distinctive and colorful tropic-inspired knits. Nixon creates intricate, hand-made jewelry that is both at once industrial and feminine.

What’s Hot

Fall Into Style
Boots and scarves and sweaters, oh my! Fall fashion is in the air. And that means new inventive looks for both wardrobe and hair, inspired by the changing season. We’re seeing local fashionistas sporting these super-hot trends to try:

Sleek, polished looks, like smooth low buns or super-long and super-straight low ponytails (try a crisp center part for heightened elegance)
The wet look–only the super confident can flawlessly pull this one off!
Mid-to-long retro styles-think deep side and off-center parts àla 1940s glamour divas (like Veronica Lake, Rita Hayworth and Ava Gardner)
Bohemian waves–according to Harper’s Bazaar, with this look, “the focus is on thick texture and kinky movement”
Volume, too, is big this fall. For tips on creating it (especially for styles 3 and 4), read on!

Quick Tips for Fabulous Holiday Hair
“Don’t be afraid to pump it up!” says Stardust stylist Ashley Parrino “After I’ve round-brushed or flat-ironed a client’s dry hair, I like to go back and give the hair more volume by applying a root booster on the hair.” Root Boost by Moroccanoil is especially good for this, she says. Once you’ve styled your hair as desired, simply:

Spray your roots only on the top, or crown, area
Blow dry the product into the hair, directing it up and away from the scalp using a paddle brush
Let hair cool and style as desired
“This trick lifts the hair and gives it a major voluminous effect!” says Ashley.

Have a short pixie cut or a heavily textured bob? Stylist Pamela Smith says you can create amazing texture and definition with Kevin Murphy’s Hair.Resort Beach Texturiser. “Just apply to damp hair and blow dry, while scrunching hair a bit, for maximum visible texture and piece-y volume,” says Pamela, who, although adept in all areas of hair design, especially loves creating fun and funky cuts and color on her Stardust clients. Because of its ability to enhance curls, Hair.Resort is great, too, for creating bohemian waves on longer hair!
